Microfinance is about providing financial services to poor individuals, and small groups and co-operatives, wherever they may be in the world, who would otherwise be unable to rise above their low-income status. Microfinance aims to assist its beneficiaries in building and sustaining a better life for themselves, usually by supporting their entrepreneurial endeavours. Providers of microfinance base the distribution of their financial products on trust and genuine knowledge of their customers, offering low interest loans and flexible repayment terms. Some providers also offer basic business training.
