Online Research - Islamic Banking Systems Guide
- Who is operating in the Islamic finance market?
- What specifically makes a system Shari'ah compliant?
- Where are the opportunities for success?
The Islamic Banking Systems and Suppliers Guide answers all of these key questions and provides a unique and unrivalled resource covering this highly specialist market. It will assist banks with the selection of the best system to support their operations and is an ideal reference and source of primary information on Islamic banking systems for suppliers and consultants operating or looking to operate in this sector.
For any bank looking for a Shari'ah-compliant core banking system, there is now a reasonable amount of choice, albeit without the full selection available to conventional banks. Some of the mainstream vendors have added support over the last few years and have come to compete with the relatively small number of specialists, but who is offering what and what are the industry trends?
The 'Arab Spring' continues to cause political instability in the Middle East and North Africa, the traditional market for Islamic banking system offerings, and this region has also not been immune from the impacts of the global economic turmoil either. According to the data submitted by the vendors to IBS for our annual Sales League Table, there were 25 Islamic banking system sales worldwide in both 2009 and 2010. In 2011 the number was also 25. This does appear to indicate that overall the Shari'ah-compliant finance industry is showing signs of stability, rather than decline, despite the economic and political conditions. We are also compiling new-name Islamic wins for Jan-Dec 2012 which will be announced in March 2013 at this year's Sales League Table Webcast, how will the picture have changed?By drilling down into the complexities and detail of what makes a banking system Shari'ah compliant, our comprehensive guide explores the challenges to the Islamic banking systems market, the various Islamic authorities involved and the differences between conventional banking and Islamic finance. It also includes in-depth case studies of real Islamic system implementations, highlighting some of the key lessons and best practices to adopt. In addition, it offers a handy Glossary of Islamic Banking Terms to help the reader navigate the tricky, but important, differences and distinctions between the terms used in this industry, such as murabaha and mudaraba, for example.
In totally independent editorial, we then evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the specialist suppliers and their systems, analysing the company background, functionality, future direction and user base for each.
Above you will see extracts of the system implementation pie charts, and user lists within the Islamic Guide. You can read several preview chapters free by registering on our website (which is also free and only takes a minute). See below for more details and a table of contents.

Where can I go for additional information and research?
Many of the suppliers featured in the Islamic Guide are covered in the broader Back Office Systems and Suppliers Guide including their complete user lists (conventional and Islamic).
We also publish more extensive profiles for selected suppliers in our Treasury & Capital Markets Systems Market Report (treasury and capital markets), the Retail Banking Systems Market Report (retail banking) and the Wealth Management Systems Market Report (private banking/wealth management). Some of the broader system suppliers are covered more than once. These reports are to such a detailed level that they tend to be used as a starting point for banks embarking on system selections.
The market as a whole is covered in the IBS Journal each month. This covers not only the back office and Islamic system suppliers but trends, processes, case studies, interviews and other systems (such as those for payments processing, business intelligence, business process management, regulatory reporting etc). Once a year the IBS Sales League Table is published, which ranks core banking system vendors in order of sales. The table is universally acknowledged as the barometer for international core banking system sales and has been for the last 16 years. It covers 60 vendors' sales in over 150 countries.
IBS also has a range of other complementary publications, such as core system case studies, and our comprehensive Market Dynamics Report. In addition, IBS is actively providing consultancy and a new training course in areas such as systems selection, strategy and project reviews, market analysis, process reengineering and architectural reviews.
