Online Research - Retail Banking Systems Market Report

Conduct your retail banking systems review with ease
Welcome to the IBS Intelligence Retail Banking Systems Market Report. This is a highly active sector and our new online report is fully updated to reflect this. The market is moderately active from a selection perspective (pockets of activity and the occasional stand-out deal) and there is also a fair state of flux among the suppliers, including mergers and acquisitions, no doubt with more to come.
We cover all of the trends in the core banking systems market within the pages of our flagship monthly publication, the IBS Journal. This is basically why we are able to produce a report such as this. We cover the sector on an ongoing basis, talking all the time to the users, suppliers and other relevant parties. IBS's business also now includes a thriving consulting arm, particularly focused on system reviews and selections, so this also adds to our knowledge.

In terms of the systems that appear in the report, the decision is entirely our own. We will always consider new systems for inclusion but they have to meet a set of criteria. First, they must cover core retail or universal banking, so we do not cover here narrower, niche systems for areas such as lending, leasing, wealth management (now a separate report) or trade finance. Second, they must be sold outside of one country or limited geographical area. For logistical reasons, we cannot cover country-specific solutions (so there is no place for the US-only players, for instance). A system such as Harland's Phoenix qualifies because it is sold outside of north America, so too the offerings of Fidelity, Fiserv and Open Solutions that are for the international stage, but not their solutions solely for their home market.
We also need good access to customers, to gain feedback, and this can sometimes delay the entry of a supplier. The report is not compiled by listening to the suppliers and taking down what they say; each entry is built up by talking to the users (happy or otherwise) and gathering intelligence from other sources, to try to give as rounded a picture as possible.

A main area where we do have to rely on the suppliers for details is functionality. We are not in a position to verify all of their claims, although we will always point out flaws or gaps where we find them and we seek to back up the claims by talking to users. It becomes particularly tricky where a supplier announces new functionality because, even if it can demo this, the real test only comes when a first bank tries to implement it.
The second cautionary word is on user lists. We send these to the suppliers each year for updating. Some of them diligently add, delete and change where appropriate, some do not, no matter how much we try to persuade them. We will always make amendments where we come across them, adding new names as banks sign, but it is a lot harder to keep track of the deletions from the user lists, whether because systems have been replaced or due to bank closures, mergers etc. Help and feedback here (and on anything else) is always gratefully received. Previously, we took user and site numbers from the suppliers but it was always a concern that we were unable to verify these. Frankly, some of the claims were becoming unbelievable. As such, we switched to a policy whereby the numbers provided are based on known names. These can be supplied by the vendor on an off-the-record basis if necessary but we will no longer print numbers without the underlying evidence (this is similar to our policy for the IBS Sales League Table, whereby all sales claims must be backed up by the actual names).
As always, the aim is to provide a detailed analysis of the leading core banking system suppliers and their offerings, to provide a basis for banks selecting systems and for anyone else with an interest in this sector. It sits alongside and complements the Treasury & Capital Markets Systems and Wealth Management Systems Market Reports, with their treasury/capital markets and wealth management focuses, respectively.Welcome to our new online format
