2009 was hardly a good year for the financial services sector and this has been reflected in the financial technology market. Smaller and weaker players were gobbled up by larger counterparts, some went out of business, but others managed to make the most of the situation and actually capitalised on it. IBS looks at the winners, the losers and the common trends in the market. Also, for the first time this year we give out awards to the vendors for their 'achievements'. Interested who 'won' what? 2008 was the year that the financial world changed. So much that was unthinkable at the start of the year was commonplace at the end, and the year closed with a semi-nationalised financial system hoping to avoid a deep recession. The reality hit home at the biggest fin-tech jamboree of the year, Sibos.
